So if you hadn’t already guessed it, I’m off to Portugal at the end of week and literally can not wait to get on that plane. As for most people, life has been pretty hectic and with work slightly hitting high on the ritcher scale, well timing couldn’t be better. So off we will head to seek some sunshine, explore new cities and cultures, enjoy long, lazy days on the beach.
So what comes with beauty on a palm tree laid holiday is beauty products to match. I would usually say that I was rather low maintenance as a person, happy to go without make-up, throw up the hair into a top knot and basically go with the flow, but after preparing for our trip I’ve maybe changed my mind. Unlike the hanging palm trees my face, hair and body do not cope so well in the hotter and dryer climates, to be fair they barely do in the cold UK, so in order to bring on that golden hair, skin and face, a product haul is required…. and well when you have the most beautiful pink velvet, golden palm tree wash bag, you have got to fill it with all things holiday.
For my hair:
Hydration, hydration, hydration, really is the main hair concern on holiday and well mostly always. Starting with the NOUNOU shampoo which I have to say has been a game changer. Literally brings my colour back to life, it cleanses treated hair, giving it the nourishment it needs, and fills your shower with caramel aromas. In combination with the NOUNOU hair mask which I have talked about here I literally feel my hair drinking it all up, also I feel I don’t have to use the hair dryer/ hair straighteners much after use, which is a bonus! A must for anyone with bleached and highlighted hair it brings back the shine. My lovely hair dresser Milly’s tip is to liberally apply and leave in whilst you are at the beach and let the treatment continue and protect under those rays, worth ago!
I have recently become a big fan of the Aveda dry remedy, it not only smells super delicious and creates that spa aroma on the flick of your locks, this is also great to dap on the ends after those sun, sand and salt infused days. It is organic and natural, with lavender and gingerlily, this leave in treatment instantly moisturises your long locks.
Of course a good old detangle product is always required, and this Phillip Kingsley Damage Defence spray, does the job nicely. Although I kinda like the look the beach gives my hair, getting a comb through it can be a feat of its own, not wanting to waste an evening combing out the knots, a few spritz of this into towel dried hair, aids the detangling and well we are sipping sunset drinks in no time. Its De-tangling, protects from UV rays and most importantly anti-frizz. So Monica Gheller hair control proofed I am!
For my face:
I don’t tend to wear a lot of make up on holiday, a bit of mascara and highlighter and I’m done, so a quick eye make up remover, this one from Bioderma which I’ve mentioned here before, and a facial wash, and this one from Clarins, just removes the sun cream that can clog up my skin in a day and off with the outside dust of a night, both quick easy and does the job. A good moisturiser is a bit of must for me, especially with the extra heat, wind and sun that hits my face whilst we are away. Now I can be a little bit of a fickle moisturising cream user and flit from one to another a bit too easily, for me I like to take a more affordable brand on holiday, as I am prone to loosing and leaving things behind, (after an incident with a rather expensive pot one holiday) this Nivea Sensitive Day Cream cream, has a built in SPF, helps reduce tightening and is free of parabens, colours and perfume, is cheap and does the job and if lost there probably won’t be any tears shed.
In saying all that I will take my tiny, tiny Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream, well at my age, it doesn’t matter where you are, an eye cream in a must to de puff, brighten and perk up the area. This one is light and fresh and doesn’t sting around the eyes on application.
Finally the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, to me is as vital as my passport, used for dry lips, a lip gloss, sun burn, cuts and grazes you name it. Tickets, check, passport check, 8 hour cream, check!
For my Sun and Body Care:
If you have seen my stories you would have seen I recently got sent some of the sun care products from Bioderma, perfect timing and literally will last me through the next few months of travel we have coming up. Now I am a massive preacher of sun care, having been the brunt of all things sun burnt and stroke over the years, you do learn your lesson. However in saying that for a couple of people that spend quite a bit of time away in warmer climates, we can still be pretty rubbish in organising our sun cream, I remember sending Wes out completely covered up in the Tulum heat in search of the highest factor SPF as we’d forgotten to bring it!!! Also what is it about application too, however much you think you’ve covered, there is always one part. So I am happy that Bioderma are sending me away prepared. I love the first smell you get from applying sun cream, ahh all things summer these products really concentrate on not only UVA/UVB protective activity but offers real internal biological protection too. Having used a lot of Bioderma products of late, I’m looking forward to liberally applying these for my golden tan.
Of course after shower and before sunset, smothering yourself in Palmers Coco Butter is one of the best parts of a holiday, keep it in the fridge for cool application and let the magic soothe and moisture that sun kissed skin.
For the night:
A touch of colour on the toes is probably as glamorous as I get when it comes to make up, coral is my holiday colour and being a slight cat in a corner shop, it doesn’t take long for me to smudge, chip my newly done pedi, so I’m prepared for a touch up with polish from The Cowshed
Finally we all need a beautiful fragrance to ease into those Summer nights, and recently I wrote about my new love affair with Thé Noir 29 by Le Labo’s, which you can read here. Perfect at home and also those musky, smoky and warm tones can come to life under a palm tree and it is a perfect little bottle for ease and comes with my name printed on it, if it gets lost!
……So yes not quite the low maintenance girl I thought, but why not indulge in a little beauty for yourself, while you also indulge in all the beauty that surrounds you. And if that makes me high maintenance and the one that has to check in her luggage then so be it.
