Goodbye Summer, hello Autumn. I think we are all thinking that the weekend’s weather was Summer’s kind way of saying her goodbyes. The last of the Summer, the last BBQ’s, alfresco dinners, Summer dresses and sandal wearing, snoozing in the rays days. Of course Autumn has an abundance of beauty and new changes can always be a good thing but I am and will forever will be a Summer girl and while lots of you are excited for Autumn colours I will be simultaneously mourning those Summer days…..
It is not like I cannot see or enjoy what the next season will bring, I am all for cosy movie nights, roast dinners, the colours, oh the colours Autumn will bring. But the slow, blissful, balmy hot days are no more and that is what I will miss.
Of course Summer has a head start in being the favourable month, we invest so much more into slowing down, taking day trips, and if we are lucky enough a holiday, swimming in the sea, lazing on the beach….really the other seasons have no hope, advantage point goes too…. But I think on a deeper level I invest way more personally and it is all to do with reflection …..Perhaps ingrained in us from our school holiday times, but I could tell you what I did, who I saw and maybe even what I ate on the second Tuesday of August….At the end of the Summer I think back to all the fab things I got up to in chronological order….When I get to December I wouldn’t have a clue what I did on the 2nd Tuesday in October and would not think to reflect back over the past few months. The reflection stops, we speed back up and we get back on the rollercoaster until Christmas hits……So asides those warm sunny days a heavy sprinkle of gratitude also makes the Summer number one for me.
I was lucky enough to have a wonderful few months, I had a great time and I suppose it is now time to move on, the next chapter awaits. And in giving Autumn a fair chance this time, perhaps I owe the next few months as much thought and refection, you never know, perhaps Autumn will upgrade herself.
So goodbye for a while Summer, hello Autumn, let us be friends.
