After a pretty dreamy sleep in the oh so comfy bed at The Rose Hotel, Venice, we had a wander along the beach before jumping in the car, heading to Hollywood to the Griffin Observatory. This was the one place I knew I wanted to go and see this time in Los Angeles and any La La Land fan will appreciate why. But first it was brunch and what a brunch it was. Our friends had told us about the 101 Coffee Shop, and I’m so glad we took them up on their recommendation, if you had a vision of a Hollywood diner this is what would be in your mind. It was almost a walk back in time, to the 60’s/70’s. Tunes from the juke box, retro brown leather sofas and swinging seats up against a long counter, booths from every movie going, I just wish I’d been decked out in bell bottoms and then the endless poured coffee, half grapefruits and the pancakes…..I was in my element. A ten minute drive to the Observatory too, so it was a winner all round. Honestly let go of the avo on toast for one morning and indulge, can you tell I loved it, the finest American Diner.
Feeling happily stuffed on pancakes, we took the drive on to Griffin Park, spotting the Hollywood sign, Pretty Woman quotes a plenty (from me), and getting to grips with turning left on those huge roads, it was a struggle, we parked up and off we walked/hiked. Now I did joke pre the visit that hiking is the same as walking and why call it that? You know all British…..But actually with the sun beaming down, a few rather steep hills to climb, pancakes weighing me down, by the time we’d got o the top of the half hour trek, my heart would allow it to be called a hike!
As you climb up to the Observatory the views become better and better, out to the Hollywood sign, over Downtown LA, 360 degrees over Los Angeles, it was pretty cool, plus a few coyote spots too….The best way to end our extremely fleeting time in Los Angeles, and the best way to kick off our road trip, all knowing that I will most definitely be back to explore so much more. City of Stars, you were really shining…… just for me!
We flew with Virgin Atlantic, Picked up a car with National Car Hire, Stayed at The Rose Hotel Venice , had Brunch at 101 Coffee Shop,Hollywood.
