I feel this year more than ever we are hanging on to the last days of Summer with a much tighter hold than perhaps usual. With the want to just stay put in these warm early September days as it feels safer right now. Although I for one have never been a fan of the end of the Summer regardless of the year’s events, I will happily drag it out for as long as I possibly can in every which way…. savouring that last Summer light, the last few glasses of rose, evenings dining alfresco and of course wearing those Summer dresses for as long as I can possibly stand to . So when Saint + Sofia kindly asked me to choose a few pieces from their Spring/Summer collection, it was as though they knew this transition was a difficult one for me, one which needs to happen gently and perhaps with a guided hand…. On that note, although all pieces I chose are from the Summer Collection, one of the main ethos’s behind Saint + Sofia is sustainability, quite wonderfully meaning that a beautiful Summer dress can easily be worn into Autumn and even Winter and once more when Spring finally appears. It is as if they are easing me into Autumn with a little bribe, and one that I very happy to “fall” for…..get it?
Saint + Sofia is a British born company, with all the designs created in their studios in the South Bank, London, the hub of creation, music, art and dance, and where I feel very at home. Their collections are curated with a feel of modern luxury but with that little bit of flair, a little sprinkle of rock, asymmetric cuts, beautiful buttons, a dash of animal print. Bringing science and art together, the art, the forever creative influence and the science, in “the strive for efficiency to be sustainable, reduce costs and minimising their impact on the environment”….tick, tick, tick! Resulting in beautiful considered pieces and ones which you can feel content in wearing. From the use of packaging which is all bio degradable and recycled materials (high priority on my list) to using GOTS Certified Organic Cotton, to reducing carbon footprint amongst others. But one which really stands out for me is the the donation of proceeds from the sale of certain pieces to tree planting charities. Thoughtful, considerate and oh so stylish, whatever the season!
Now to the exciting part, the clothes….With my head still in the dreams of Summer and with an upcoming beach trip on the horizon my choices were inspired by the longing for continuous balmy, relaxed days, on the beach, in the garden or curling up with a book…. although this quickly transpired to want look and feel like a member of Fleetwood Mac, which is what happened when I spied the Saint and Sofia White Wimbledon Dress. This dress really had me at the asymmetric hem line. Beautiful soft, silky fabric, which feels really amazing on, such quality in the material and the design, with a really flattering shape. I love, love the print, the 3/4 length sleeve which I like to undo (in Summer) to add to the relax feel. But the best part is I wore it to dinner outside with slides but it will also definitely help ease me in to Autumn, when I will add a leather jacket and boots …..But for now I will float around with my floppy hat pretending to be Stevie Nicks….
I love a shirt on the beach, perfect to throw on over your bikini or to chill with denim cut offs. The Saint and Sofia Black Headliner Shirt was just the ticket. Style it up or down, it has a relaxed fit but a tailored style, the softest cotton with gold buttons across the back giving it extra detail. Once again, I love the chilled and comfortable vibe for Summer, but with jeans of a tailored trouser for the cooler months this shirt is fast becoming one of my favourite pieces, this Summer, Autumn and Winter….
Along with my love for Summer comes my penchant for an animal print, especially a very stylish subtle sprinkle of leopard , all hail the The Saint and Sofia Navy Leopard Run Away Pant The thing I really liked is the choice in the length of trouser, I am only 5ft2 so getting trousers to fit without the added cost of getting them refitted is a always a bit of a pain, so hurrah for the advocacy of short people. Made out of a beautiful Italian fabric, Ponte Di Roma, silky smooth to touch and oh so comfy with a high, elasticated waste but with a tailored finish. Also I really like to have something comfortable that are not jeans. I feel as the nights draw in and the days get colder, these will be perfect to add a bit of style to the everyday…..
The Last Days of Summer it may well be, but all cannot be lost of if some of those considered Summer choices stay with me through to Autumn, Winter and Spring, before the whole cycle starts again, and again.
This was a collaboration with Saint and Sofia. The clothes were gifted in return for this blog post. All creative direction and thoughts are solely my own.
